That's why I'm blogging about Dessy Di Lauro. I discovered Dessy and Ric'Key Pageot, her husband, thanks to Madonna. Ric'Key is Madonna's pianist, and if anyone still doubts Madonna only hires the best, doubt no longer - he not only is one of the best pianists that exist on this earth, he is above all passionate and gives everything when he plays. That's the kind of people Madonna likes to work with.
When in New York last May for the MDNA Tour DVD Premiere, I went to the Blue Note Cafe in one of my favorite part of the city to see Dessy live. She was performing songs from her newest album, This Is Neo-Ragtime.
I had never really paid attention to this kind of music, but Dessy and her group blew my mind. First of all, she has an amazing voice, and loves being on stage. She truly communicates her joy to the audience. She likes to talk to her audience. There's a real exchange with the artist here. Second, her group is just consumed with the passion of playing their instruments. Every member of the band was focused, passionate, and increadibly talented. Among them Ric'Key, who played the piano as if his life depended on it.
It was a real inspiration to see people so passionate about what they do, so professional yet so warm and friendly.
I wanted to share this because I loved their music and that's what I love about being a Madonna fan - discovering real artists.
Dessy's music is described as "Feathered Fro-hawk Futuristic Art Deco Centric Harlem Renaissance Hep Music." You can visit her website at dessydilauro.com and follow her on Facebook here. The band is constantly touring the US so if you have a chance to catch them, don't hesitate!
